Why is this category important? – In today’s media, we see professional athletes, CEO’s, celebrities, politicians, and many creative artists coming “out of the closet” in support of the LGBTQ communities, especially our youth.
Yet, when researching “lesbian designers” there is very little research available and even that tends to focus on rather dated material. It’s our hope to find lesbian designers who are (or were) able to overcome a cultural bias against them and stand up rather than be intimidated for being not only female, but gay. We want to recognize them for their design achievements and contributions to the field of graphic design in spite of a challenging environment.
